Starship Technologies Inc., a startup that operates a fleet of self-driving delivery robots, said it has raised about $100 million in the past two months and is now operating in new cities and on more college campuses.
A large number of on-demand delivery companies – both those that use robots and those that use humans to make deliveries – are currently struggling to figure out how to turn a profit.
Like some of its competitors, Starship’s robots resemble small four-wheeled beer-cooling units that primarily roll along sidewalks to deliver food. The robots use technology similar to that of self-driving cars that use cargo pods to deliver food.
